Separou-se e casou com Marsha Garces Williams em 30 de Abril de 1989, e teve dois filhos.Robin Williams ganhou o Oscar na categoria de Melhor Ator Coadjuvante pela atuação em Gênio indomável, em 1997.Atuou também em diversos outros filmes como "Sociedade dos Poetas Mortos" (1989), "Uma babá quase perfeita" (1993), "Jumanji" (1995), "Gênio Indomável" (1997), "Amor Além da Vida" (1998), "Inteligência Artificial" (2001) e muitos outros filmes.
